How Long Does An Ultrasound Tech Need To Attend School?

I’m considering a career change and have always been interested in healthcare. From what I’ve read RNs, RTs or ultrasound technicians have a strong future in healthcare. Can anyone tell me how much school is involved in becoming an UT? I only have some college completed and would need to go back to school – the question is, for how long?
Thanks for your help!

The minimum for an ultrasound program is 2 years. Just make sure you go to an accredited school. I went to a well known accredited school in NYC, and I am still having a hard time finding a job. I’m half way through getting registered so hopefully it will get better when I am done. I’m beginning to feel that you just have to get lucky in order to find a job.
If the choice is between ultrasound or nursing, go with nursing. I feel I should have. They have a great starting salary and there are several areas to go into. More opportunities. Average hospital needs 4-7 ultrasound techs at the most but needs about 100 plus nurses.
