During An Ultrasound, Is The Whooshing Sound Directly Related To The Heart Rate?

I understand ultrasound works by detecting blood flow. Is the rate of the whoosh a one-for-one correlation with the heartbeat, or is it the sound of the pulses generated by the machine, at a set rate?

  1. Mamacita says:

It depends what kind of ultrasound you had. Ultrasound checks venous and arterial flow. Venous sounds like waves in the ocean, and arterial sound like a heartbeat.
But to answer your question….No, the sound doesn’t come from the machine, and yes….the whoosh is a one-for-one with your heartbeat. (That is if indeed it was an arterial scan)
