Digital Radiography: Better Technology and Greater Cost Efficiency

By radio, August 31, 2009

In digital radiography, digital x-ray sensors are used to capture a two-dimensional image instead of the photographic film used in conventional x-ray imaging. This digital process is faster and more efficient than chemical processing and greatly improves the ability to enhance and transfer images.

Another benefit is that considerably less radiation is used to capture the image thus requiring far less exposure for the patient.

Instead of x-ray film, a digital capture device is used to record an x-ray image. This also allows for its availability as a digital file which can easily be used for interpretation and stored in the patient’s medical file.

Digital radiography is preferable to film for many reasons. Special techniques allow for enhancement of the display of the image which allows for better use and interpretation by medical professionals. Images do not require developing and are, therefore, available for immediate review.

Lastly, digital radiography’s broader dynamic range allows for less over and under-exposure of images and less time spent both for the patient and radiology staff.

There are two different kinds of digital capture devices:

•    Flat Panel Detectors (Amorphous Silicon or Amorphous Selenium) also known as FPDs
•    High Density Line Scan Solid State Detectors (Photostimulable Barium Fluoro Bromide).

Both allow for image data files to be immediately sent to a computer screen for an x-ray technologist to review and check the body position while the patient is still present. The technologist can then easily forward the image on to a radiologist for further review.

The single biggest motivator for using digital radiography, even beyond improving efficiency alone, may be the overall cost reduction in processing, managing and storing x-ray films. As organizations across the healthcare field look to trim costs, digital radiography may be one way to save money and improve quality at the same time.

Stereotactic Radio Surgery at Neurosurgery hospitals in India

Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) treats brain disorders with a precise delivery of a single, high dose of radiation in a single-day session. Focused radiation beams are delivered to a specific area of the brain to treat abnormalities, tumors or functional disorders…..

How it Works

Stereotactic Radiosurgery works the same as all other forms of radiation treatment. It does not remove the tumor or lesion, but it distorts the DNA of the tumor cells. The cells then lose their ability to reproduce and retain fluids…..

The Many Benefits of an Integrated Ris Pacs System in the Medical Field

By radio, August 31, 2009

Technology is constantly changing. These changes are affecting the medical world at an incredible rate. Nowhere else are these changes more evident than in the radiology field. Constant upgrades to technology has led to increased awareness of what’s going on in our bodies with new CT scans or from the sharing of patient information through the use of a PACS viewer or a mammography viewer Radiology Information System and Picture Archiving and Communications system, also referred to as a RIS PACS system, allows medical offices and hospitals to easily and more importantly, quickly share diagnostic imaging information, reports and images electronically through either a PACS web viewer or a regular PACS viewer.

This technology greatly reduces the need for film in diagnostic imaging. A simple way to define RIS PACS is as a computerized information system which allows for electronic scheduling, storage and organization of diagnostic imaging and patient information. A PACS viewer can also manage imaging workflow, workload and billing information. These machines minimize the need for paper-based transactions and all kinds of film images. A mammography viewer, for example, provides patient information to a mammography workstation so that the correct images are associated with the correct patient.

A PACS viewer can store X-rays and other diagnostic images. They reduce the need for film while also facilitating quick access to patient images and reports. Benefits for Patients • A PACS web viewer vastly improves a health care provider’s access to patient’s images and reports. • Medical professionals also experience a reduced number of duplicate images since prior results are available electronically as a for support health care providers when making diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Benefits for Health Care Providers • An integrated pacs viewer works to eliminate the emphasis on where a test is performed since all results are shared electronically with other facilities. A PACS web viewer is a perfect example of how information can be shared through the internet. • Radiologists, referring physicians and clinicians now can access a chronological view of a patient’s radiology history. Benefits for Administrative Personnel • A PACS viewer greatly improves the management and storage of diagnostic resources and wait lists alike. • It slashes costs related to the managing of film and tests previously affected by lack of access to relevant priors, or lost films. The integration of a mammography viewer into a hospital or medical office brings with it substantial improvements in work efficiency. Understanding what is possible with a new mammography workstation not only helps a doctor or physician find the right solution to a problem, but can also be a good prognostic indicator of your future fight against potentially deadly diseases. As you can see, these changes in technology are a good thing.

Wayne Hemrick writes about RIS PACS. PACS and the DICOM standard, patient information can be shared electronically and near-instantaneously by digital imaging users using a host of modality, computer hardware and imaging software vendors.

Is It Easier To Go To Technical School Or A University For Radiology?

By radio, August 31, 2009

I was planning to go to Armstrong Atlantic State University and take some core classes to get the feel of college. But someone told me, if i knew that i was going to major in radiology then i could go technical school and start right way at what i want to do.
So can i get some ideas and your input on the best road to go?
Well either schools affect my salary in the long run?
Which one is the quicker way to get my “dream job”?
